I need y'all's help, people! And it's easy. How do you say "I love you" in your language? My mom is going on a spiritual retreat this weekend wherein she is given time to reflect on family and friends. Many of her old pals and family members have been asked by my brother to write "love letters", notes or cards to let her know much we love and appreciate her. He's been to one of these before and was very moved by it and still keeps his letters 4 years down the road. I will share the results when I send it but that has to be soon! If you write in cyrillic or kanji or something, would you mind writing it on paper and taking a cell phone pic of it? THANKS!!!!

A bird cried out my window too late at night to be normal so I went to investigate. A local black cat had something in his mouth, lifeless whatever it was, probably the poor bird's baby. I couldn't see. It was too dark. Past midnight. What bird squawks so late?
The momma bird's lament was haunting.
All I could think to say to the black cat, that kinda seemed to have looked to me for praise, was "you BETTER eat that". And I walked away.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhuhr
Now you know.
* Salat (Prayer) * Fajr (Dawn prayer) * zuhr (Mid-day prayer) * Asr (Afternoon prayer) * Maghrib (Sunset prayer) * Isha'a (Night prayer) * Salat al Eid (Eid Prayer) * Jumu'ah (Friday Prayer)
And there are 'prayer units' called Raka'at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raka%27ah
The word rakaʿah (Arabic: ركعة, pl. ركعات rakaʿāt) refers to one unit of Islamic prayer, or Salah. Each daily prayer is made up of a different number of raka'at:
* Fajr — The dawn prayer: 2 raka'at * Dhuhr — The noon prayer: 4 raka'at * Asr — The afternoon prayer: 4 raka'at * Maghrib — The sunset prayer: 3 raka'at * Isha'a — The night prayer: 4 raka'at
The Friday prayer consists of 2 raka'at and is prayed in place of the Dhuhr prayer on Friday.
[edit] What constitutes a Raka'at
* Takbir * Supplications / Iftitah1 * Recitation of Sura Fatiha * Recitation of another sura * Ruk'u (Bowing) * Straightening up from Ruk'u * Sajdah (The prostration) * Rising from Sajdah * The second Sajdah * Tashahhud 2 * Salam (The salutation) 3
1 Only performed in the first raka'ah of the prayer. 2 Only first half of it is performed in the second raka'ah in a 3/4-Raka'ah prayer like Al-zuhr(4) or Al Maghreb(3), whereas all of it is performed in the final (last) raka'ah in any standard n-Raka'ah prayer (Salah). 3 Only performed in the final raka'ah of the prayer.

I started at an article about Charles Addams mentioning that his Bugati was the same model in which Isadora Duncan supposedly got strangled by her scarf getting caught in the rear wheel.
http://learning2share.blogspot.com/2009/01/cartoonist-charles-addams-profiled-in.html
I looked her fascinating personal dancing and publicly bisexual life up.

and got to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irving_Thalberg
and found that quote.
I like it.
Wow. That was a fun link to link to link journey through Wikipedia. Yeah Wikipedia!

Blue tech from Mercedes excited me. It's diesel, but has 80% reduced emissions compared to today's diesel engines. I was waiting to hear when their technology would cross the pond and make it here from German. I finally saw an ad and the CHEAPEST car they touted was 50 grand.
dis-a-POINT-ed! http://microsites.mbusa.com/microsite/bluetec/index.jsp?WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=7154988&iq_id=7154988
I was set to pay higher prices but CuhRAP!
Maybe I'll go with a 13,000 dollar smart car. (with AC, a MUST is ATX). Hey, it's dorky but I'd rather do SOMEthing.

Hah! I swore that I'd heard somewhere on the order of 60mpg for Blue tech. Their site talks about 23-25 mpg. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF that!

Koreans have chokpo, or genealogies that go back FOREVER. Fascinating. It would be very cool to have a record like this.
“Korean genealogies, or chokpo, originated from two basic convictions of traditional Korean life: the belief that one’s identity and social status was earned by the virtue and achievements of one’s ancestors, and the need to have accurate descent records in order to maintain the integrity and efficacy of the ancestral rituals ... Many people, including professional Korean specialists themselves, will see what a wealth of historical detail can be found in or through such genealogies, how much insight can be gained into both the ancient and recent past, how in many cases they can be used to advance more general research, and simply how much sheer drama and excitement they can hold in their pages.” - Dr. Gari Ledyard, King Sejong Professor Emeritus of Korean Studies, Columbia University in the City of New York

I accuse this video of insufficient soul-lessness and failure to meet minimum shallowness standards. It must be supressed by all means.

I would like a case of almond butter with maple syrup just to be able to return to talk to the gal behind the counter at that shop next to 7-11 on Lamar. Dang what's the name of that place?

Y'all, please watch the above 2+ minute documentary short.
New York Times photographer Dith Pran survived the Cambodian killing fields. He dedicated his life to telling the story of the Khmer Rouge's genocide.
Photojournalism sparks/spikes my interest. Dith not only had a great calling but a singular mission and one story to tell: the Killing Fields.
It is an important story. And Rwanda happened still. And the Sudan is happening now. And Kenya. And Somalia...

Back in the Playground Blues - Adrian Mitchell (1997) I dreamed I was back in the playground, I was about four feet high Yes dreamed I was back in the playground, standing about four feet high Well the playground was three miles long and the playground was five miles wide
It was broken black tarmac with a high wire fence all around Broken black dusty tarmac with a high wire fence running all around And it had a special name to it, they called it The Killing Ground
Got a mother and a father, they're one thousand years away The rulers of The Killing Ground are coming out to play Everybody thinking: 'Who they going to play with today?'
Well you get it for being Jewish And you get it for being black Get it for being chicken And you get it for fighting back You get it for being big and fat Get it for being small Oh those who get it get it and get it For any damn thing at all
Sometimes they take a beetle, tear off its six legs one by one Beetle on its black back, rocking in the lunchtime sun But a beetle can't beg for more, a beetle's not half the fun
I heard a deep voice talking, it had that iceberg sound 'It prepares them for Life' - but I have never found Any place in my life worse than The Killing Ground.

So I watched Juno (out of synch with the soundtrack for the most part) and get all into the Moldy Peaches, or confirm my like for them. (I'd heard of them a tad but...) so of COURSE they were here in Austin and just played their last gig last night for SXSW.

Right.
I want to start a different kind of poker club.
Hear ye! Hear ye! To all Gaming ENTHUSIASTS and lovers of the crafty art of POKER!
It is proposed to begin a new club with the pursuit of philosophy, philanthropy, art patronage, and a good time to be had by all.
The idea behind the philanthropy part is this: people pay club 'dues' every month, basically as if they paid a 'buy in' at a regular game. It would cover their buy in but instead of winning cash, the prize is a pair of tickets to either a LOCAL (ie central texas) band or play or what have you. During a week the group can vote on different suggestions for the subsequent week. Preference would be for events that are charity fundraisers for people with huge hospital bills due to some catastrophe or another, or some other charitable organization.
I'd like one that was politically motivated but that seems it should be separate. It would kind of be fun if the Republicans battled the Democrats every week and the prize pool would go either to a Dem or Rep cause. It would make for a great deal of tension and debate, I'd say! One week it could go for the NRA, one week it could go for the ACLU!
